M4

Travelling along the M4 motorway the other day reminded me what a great journey it is for spotting raptors (the birds not the dinosaurs). I saw lots of Buzzards, sometimes circling in groups of three or four. Unusually I only saw one Red kite, whereas they ate usually liberally sprinkled along the way. A few Kestrels hovering too.

  1. I was shocked a few years ago to see a red kite in Reading sity centre. I know that kites have been expanding their range and that they may be seen along roads looking for roadkill or in the countryside but that was the first time I have seen one in an urban environment. By the way, the RPSB’s latest podcast (Natures Voice) is a raptor special if you haven’t heard it yet.
